Plain terms: what this site collects, what's used when Scalar Digital contacts a business, why, and how to get it changed or removed.
Who this covers
What’s collected, and why
The contact form on this site collects, depending on what you choose to fill in:
- Your name and email address (required)
- Phone number, trade, project type and budget range (optional)
- Whatever you write in the message field
This is used for one purpose: to reply to your enquiry with a plan and a price. It isn't used for marketing, sold, or shared with anyone outside the delivery of that reply.
The “send me the full report” form under the free speed test collects your name, business name, email, website, and optionally your phone, trade and town. It's used to prepare and send the report you asked for (including a concept of a fast site for your business) and to reply to you about it - nothing else, and you can ask for it to be deleted at any time.
Where it goes
When you submit the form, its contents are sent directly to Scalar Digital via Telegram, a messaging service used here purely as a private notification channel — not for marketing or any other purpose.
Your name, email, phone number and message are also saved as a lead inside Scalar Digital's own dashboard product — the same tool built for trade-business clients — so your enquiry can be tracked and followed up on properly. This is an internal business tool operated by Scalar Digital, not a third-party marketing platform: nothing in it is sold, shared outside Scalar Digital, or used to contact you for anything beyond replying to what you sent.
The site is hosted on Vercel, which processes standard web request data (like your IP address) as part of serving the page — this is normal for any website and isn't used to identify you personally.
Business outreach
Scalar Digital contacts some trade businesses directly, by email, post or phone, to offer a faster website. This is done on the basis of legitimate interests - offering a relevant service to a business - and limited companies are the only ones contacted by email without having asked first.
What's used, all of it published by the business or on a public register:
- The name it trades under, its website, and the contact details listed on that website
- Companies House records: company type and number, registered address, and director names (a director may be the person addressed)
- Its Google rating and number of reviews, and which local firms Google shows for its trade and town
- Google's public speed test of its website, and an automated check of the homepage (for example whether the phone number can be tapped), with screenshots of how it loads on a phone
- Occasionally a photo of a sign or van, taken in public, to read the business name and number
Some messages link to a private preview page made for that business. When it's opened, Scalar Digital records that it was viewed, when and how many times, roughly how long it was looked at, how far down it was scrolled and which sections were reached, any button pressed on it (such as “not for us”) and a phone number if one is left there to be called back, and whether the link came from an email, a letter or a card - and gets a notification so it can follow up. A short walkthrough video of the business's current site and its preview may be added to that page. If a quote is opened, when and how often is recorded too.
Replies, and notes and outcomes from phone calls, are kept so the conversation can be picked up again. Lists and call notes are kept on Scalar Digital's own computer; preview pages and quotes are kept in its own dashboard.
Some of this is processed by an AI service, Anthropic's Claude, used through its business API: to check a website really belongs to the business, to read a reply or a photo, to suggest wording for a reply (always read and sent by a person), and to describe photos. Nothing is decided about a business by AI alone, and no one is contacted automatically because of it.
If you'd rather not be contacted again, reply to any message, press “not for us” on the preview page, or email hello@scalardigital.co.uk. Your business's details, preview page and any video are deleted, and only the minimum needed to make sure you're never contacted again (the business name, website or email address) is kept.
Analytics
This site uses Vercel Analytics (plus Google Analytics if you accept it; see Cookies below). Vercel Analytics is a privacy-focused analytics tool that doesn't use cookies and doesn't track you individually across sites. It reports aggregated, anonymous information — which pages get visited, roughly how fast they load — and a small number of anonymous events (such as "a contact form was submitted" along with the trade and budget range selected, with no name or contact details attached). None of this can be traced back to you as an individual.
Separately, Scalar Digital's own dashboard product (mentioned above) also logs which pages you visit against this site specifically, so Scalar Digital can see how its own site performs — the same traffic reporting every client of that product gets for their own site. This isn't shared with any third party.
Cookies
This site doesn't use marketing or advertising cookies and doesn't run any tracking pixels.
If you choose to accept, it uses Google Analytics (Google LLC), which sets cookies to measure how the site is used, such as which pages are visited and how visitors arrive. Nothing is set unless you accept, you can decline with one click, and the site works the same either way. Your choice is stored only in your browser; clear your site data to be asked again.
